Charles Rennie Mackintosh
The British architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh is regarded as the head of the famous Glasgow School and is one of the most important representatives of the Jugendstil in Great Britain. He received his practical training in an architectural office, but also attended evening classes at the Glasgow Art Polytechnic Institute. In 1889 Mackintosh joined the company Honeyman & Keppie. He became partner in 1904 and worked there until 1913. His main work is the Glasgow School of Art built in 1897 and completed in 1909. He was responsible for all interior design of the building and his designs exist to present day. Although Mackintosh was able to design and built many more remarkable buildings, for example "Hill House", he is most acclaimed for his work as a furniture designer. He continues to fascinate many with his application of cubic abstraction and floral inspired lines to respectively convey rational and expressive elements.
