Origin
Besides the Barcelona armchair the Barcelona stool might be the most famous furniture from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe ever. Both furniture were designed for the German pavilion (which was built by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe himself) on the world exposition in Barcelona 1929. Therefrom comes the naming. On the world exposition the Bracelona armchair was reserved for the Spanish royal couple. Other poeple were only allowed to sit on the Barcelona stool. But today the Barcelona armchair has reached the rest of the poeple and became one of the classic furniture par excellence. The armchair decorates Congress halls, lounges, offices same as privat rooms.
