Wilhelm Wagenfeld
back to designer

|
One of the best known Bauhaus classics is undoubtedly the "Wagenfeld lamp". Its timeless design is in perfect harmony with almost all the other designer furniture presented in our collection.
After an apprenticeship in a silverware factory from 1923 to 1925, he attended the Bauhaus drawing academy in Hanau. From 1926, he worked as an assistant at the State Academy of Crafts and Architecture in Weimar. He held a short-term professorship at the Academy for Fine Arts in Berlin after the war. He later moved to Stuttgart where he founded the "Workshop Wagenfeld" for the design of industrial furniture. In 1978, he withdrew from professional life. His simple designs strikingly combined aesthetic aspects with practical considerations. Wilhelm Wagenfeld is a pioneer of industrial design.
